The UK’s Natural Capital Committee have released their first ‘State of Nature‘ report outlining current trends in UK natural assets. The report sets out the Committee’s strategic approach for the better valuation, management and measurement of resources provided by the natural environment and has four key messages:

  • Natural capital assets are in decline and these trends should be measured.
  • Changes in natural capital should be properly included in national and corporate accounts.
  • Changes in natural capital should be properly valued and those values more effectively included in decision-making processes.
  • Stewardship of natural capital is good for growth
