His interest in trace element uptake into biota caused him to remain at Imperial College to complete PhD research on the accumulation of mercury in fishes in the Brazilian Amazon. He then worked for the International Institute for Environment and Development on a global participatory study of the relationship between the mining and minerals industry and the principles of sustainable development. Following this, Bruce moved to Water Management Consultants, undertaking modelling and risk assessment for various potentially toxic elements in the vicinity of metal mines worldwide. Before taking the post of Science Policy Liaison, Bruce worked for the Department of Earth Sciences at Oxford University, where he led two Natural Environment Research Council Knowledge Exchange Initiatives as well as being Project Manager for a European technology demonstration Project. |
